The No. 2 observation platform at Mekari Park affords a sweeping view of the magnificent strait below and is a great spot to take photos of the Kanmon Bridge.
There is a tide-viewing promenade where visitors can walk while experiencing the rapid tidal current between Norfolk Square along the sea and the last station for the sightseeing train.
Nearby is the Kanmon Tunnel Footpath A 20-min. walk through the tunnel lets visitors cross the Kanmon Strait.
The border between Fukuoka and Yamaguchi prefectures is marked midway through the tunnel and is a popular place to take a photo.
The waterfront area includes the tide-viewing promenade, Norfolk Square named after the sister city of Norfolk, and Mekari Shrine, which is famous for the Mekari Shinto ritual that takes place on lunar New Year. Visitors can get a close-up view of the dynamic tidal current, the magnificent Kanmon Bridge, and ships sailing back and forth.
